Not all business brokers are created equally. You really need someone looking out for you, whether you’re buying or selling a business. You need someone trustworthy, experienced and knowledgeable. What’s the best way to sort the wheat from the chaff? First, speak to the broker and gauge how you feel. Do you feel at ease? Do you like them? Believe it or not, that’s important! You are going to work in a partnership with your broker for weeks or months. They need to know your likes and dislikes, and your motivations for wanting to buy (or sell!). They’re negotiating for you, so choose someone that knows people. Second, find out if they’ve got good processes. Next, find out how much experience they have. Finally, sign up for one of their newsletters, or visit their website. Does it look professional? Do they have a good history of selling businesses of the same type you’re looking at? We’ve been in the industry for over 20 years, and we genuinely think we’re the best in Victoria.
